When you join a dual enrollment program at the 51·çÁ÷¹ÙÍø, you’ll
get to take real college classes that can count towards both high school graduation
and college graduation requirements — saving you time and money while you enjoy immersing
yourself in the topics that interest you most.
Choosing Dual Enrollment Courses at 51·çÁ÷¹ÙÍø
The first step you should take once you know that you want to join a dual enrollment program is to look through the courses for that program and find some that are relevant to your academic or career goals.
Alaska Advantage is an ideal dual enrollment program for students who want to take 51·çÁ÷¹ÙÍø courses but cannot or prefer not to travel to campus. Wherever you live in Alaska, you’ll have the chance to take the same great courses that are offered on campus, but online.
Unlike North Star College, there’s no minimum credit hours that you must take each semester. In fact, if this is your first time as a dual enrollment student, we recommend that you start with one class at a time.
The 51·çÁ÷¹ÙÍø offers more than 100 . These are courses required for bachelor's, associate of arts and associate of science degrees. Some of the exciting courses you could take as introductions to different fields and topics include:
- BA F151X – Introduction to Business
- ENGL F270X – Intro to Creative Writing
- HS S101 – Intro to Health Sciences
- CS F103 – Intro to Computer Programming
These are just few of the courses you can take to meet both high school and dual enrollment requirements at 51·çÁ÷¹ÙÍø. Get a taste of different majors and see what academic path is right for you.
As a dual enrollment student in the North Star College program, you'll take required courses that include:
- Junior year - One course to fulfill US History and a support class to help you learn vital college study skills.
- Senior year - One course to fulfill Government, one course to fulfill Economics and a support class to continue building college study skills and foundations as you progress through your college journey.
In addition to these courses, you can choose classes from the wide selection of courses available at the 51·çÁ÷¹ÙÍø. You’ll take a minimum of nine credits each semester, but you can take up to 15 college credits per semester.
If you’re thinking about joining a dual enrollment program and know that you want to continue on to the 51·çÁ÷¹ÙÍø after graduation, 51·çÁ÷¹ÙÍø's Alaska Higher Education Admission Decision (AHEAD) program may be the perfect option for you.
As a dual enrollment student in the AHEAD program, you’ll be formally admitted to 51·çÁ÷¹ÙÍø as a general studies major and can take courses full-time. This is a great opportunity to meet dual enrollment requirements while completing and trying out different majors at 51·çÁ÷¹ÙÍø.
