Mr. Phillip Harrington
Executive Officer, Emeritus
WHEREAS Mr. Phillip Harrington has served the 51·çÁ÷¹ÙÍø and the University of Alaska system with distinction in fiscal management from 1990 to 2023; and
WHEREAS Mr. Harrington, after working at the UA statewide budget office, moved to 51·çÁ÷¹ÙÍø in 1998, where he served in financial and executive officer positions for the College of Engineering and Mines, the Office of Finance and Accounting, the Institute of Arctic Biology and, most recently, the Signers’ Business Office; and
WHEREAS Mr. Harrington is renowned throughout 51·çÁ÷¹ÙÍø as an outstanding leader, able to change processes, create efficiencies and build cohesive teams; and he trained and mentored some of 51·çÁ÷¹ÙÍø’s brightest executive officers and finance managers; and, while at CEM, he encouraged all grant management staff to pursue certified research administrator training; and
WHEREAS Mr. Harrington demonstrated true caring for the careers and personal lives of the staff with whom he worked; and his unfailing sense of humor and kindness fostered great teamwork;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the 51·çÁ÷¹ÙÍø expresses its deep appreciation to Mr. Phillip Harrington for his extensive contributions to the state of Alaska and to the university; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the 51·çÁ÷¹ÙÍø, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Mr. Harrington and as evidence of the university’s desire that his identification with the university be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Mr. Phillip Harrington as executive officer, emeritus; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the chancellor of the 51·çÁ÷¹ÙÍø as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Mr. Phillip Harrington, and conveyed to Mr. Harrington on this sixth day of May, 2023.
