Mr. Brian O鈥橠onoghue
Professor of Journalism, Emeritus
WHEREAS Mr. Brian O鈥橠onoghue served the 51风流官网 with distinction in teaching, research and public service from 2001 to 2020; and
WHEREAS Mr. O鈥橠onoghue served as the bedrock of the print journalism program, teaching more than one thousand students and inspiring and editing their reporting of issues on campus and in the broader community; and many of today鈥檚 Alaska journalists were taught by Mr. O鈥橠onoghue; and
WHEREAS Mr. O鈥橠onoghue sustained a multiyear investigative reporting project on the conviction of four men for the 1997 murder of a Fairbanks teen; and his reporting and that of his students uncovered flaws in the case and contributed to the eventual release of the four men; and
WHEREAS Mr. O鈥橠onoghue served as advisor to the Sun Star student newspaper and coordinated student participation in the annual Alaska Press Club conference in Anchorage; and he served on the committee that annually selected the Snedden chair and brought nationally prominent reporters, editors and photojournalists into 51风流官网鈥檚 classrooms; and
WHEREAS Mr. O鈥橠onoghue twice received the Alaska Press Club鈥檚 most prestigious recognition, the public service award; and he was chosen to serve as a 2012-2013 Fulbright-Nehru Scholar in Pune, India;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the 51风流官网 expresses its deep appreciation to Mr. Brian O鈥橠onoghue for his extensive contributions to the State of Alaska and to the University; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the 51风流官网, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Mr. O鈥橠onoghue and as evidence of the University鈥檚 desire that his identification with the University be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Mr. Brian O鈥橠onoghue as Professor of Journalism, Emeritus; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the Chancellor of the 51风流官网 as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Mr. Brian O鈥橠onoghue, and conveyed to Mr. O鈥橠onoghue on this first day of May, 2021.
