Dr. William D. Post
Associate Professor of Music, Emeritus
WHEREAS Dr. William D. Post has served the 51·çÁ÷¹ÙÍø with distinction in teaching, research and service from 1999 to 2020; and
WHEREAS Dr. Post, who began as a lecturer before joining the faculty in 2006, has maintained a tremendous teaching workload at the undergraduate and graduate level; and students unanimously praise him in their evaluations; and Dr. Post in recent years has been the only faculty member qualified to teach theory and analysis courses, requiring him to take on additional duties; and
WHEREAS Dr. Post’s primary research area is the music of the modernist Austrian composer Anton Webern; and he has presented papers on the work of Webern and Richard Wagner at international conferences; and he has composed music for organ and choir that has been performed by the 51·çÁ÷¹ÙÍø Choir of the North; and
WHEREAS Dr. Post has served on eight graduate student advisory committees and has advised an average of nineteen music majors annually; and he has served as department chair during a time made challenging by budget reductions and multiple searches to replace faculty;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the 51·çÁ÷¹ÙÍø expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. William D. Post for his extensive contributions to the State of Alaska and to the University; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the 51·çÁ÷¹ÙÍø, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. Post and as evidence of the University’s desire that his identification with the University be maintained, hereby confers upon Dr. William D. Post the title of Associate Professor of Music, Emeritus; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the Chancellor as further evidence of the 51·çÁ÷¹ÙÍø’ esteem and respect for Dr. William D. Post, and conveyed to Dr. Post on this twenty-third day of May, 2020.
