Dr. Marsha Sousa

Director of the Honors Program, Emeritus

WHEREAS Dr. Marsha Sousa has served the 51·çÁ÷¹ÙÍø with distinction in teaching, research and service in multiple diverse capacities between 1989 and 2019; and

WHEREAS Dr. Sousa has taught nearly two dozen courses during her career, covering a wide variety of topics in biology, and has recently mentored students with great success both as director of the Honors Program and as student core director in the Biomedical Learning and Student Training program; and

WHEREAS Dr. Sousa’s studies have not only involved research of reproduction in northern ungulate species but also broadened into efforts to expand nurse aide education and develop innovative ways of mentoring biomedical students; and

WHEREAS Dr. Sousa has served on dozens of University committees and working groups, including the Faculty Senate, Accreditation Steering Committee and Provost’s Council, and has made countless presentations in public school classrooms; and

WHEREAS Dr. Sousa has received multiple honors, including the Emil Usibelli Distinguished Teaching Award and the 51·çÁ÷¹ÙÍø Outstanding Advisor Award (twice);

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the 51·çÁ÷¹ÙÍø expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. Marsha Sousa for her extensive contributions to the State of Alaska and to the University; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the 51·çÁ÷¹ÙÍø, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. Sousa and as evidence of the University’s desire that her identification with the University be maintained, hereby confers upon Dr. Marsha Sousa the title of Director of the Honors Program, Emeritus; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the Chancellor as further evidence of the 51·çÁ÷¹ÙÍø’ esteem and respect for Dr. Marsha Sousa, and conveyed to Dr. Sousa on this fourth day of May, 2019.
