Center ICE Seed Funds Awarded
June 1, 2020
Center ICE has awarded researchers funding through the Center ICE Seed Fund. The Seed Fund is designed to boost commercialization success, entrepreneurialism and innovation at the University of Alaska and throughout the state. The fund invests directly in people, technologies and commercialization efforts.
One award made through our UA Community Consulting program was given to Maher Al-Badri, assistant professor in the College of Engineering and Mines, to investigate a patent for a new motor/generator technology that may be beneficial for low and variable speed power generation in applications such as hydrokinetic or wind power.
This UA Community Consulting program provides a way for the community to access experts at the university for short term projects that may identify more significant innovation and commercialization opportunities for the community or the university.
Four other awards were given for COVID-19 inspired projects to create personal protective equipment, or PPE, sanitize PPE or model the disease in at-risk populations in Alaska.
The CISF remains open for additional applications through the summer. Visit Center ICE seed funding
