URSA announces Spring 2025 Mentor Award recipients

The Office of Undergraduate Research and Scholarly Activity congratulates the following individuals who received an URSA Spring 2025 Mentor Award.

Project Title: How Many Apples Does It Take? Quantifying PM2.5鈥檚 Oxidative Stress Impact with Spectrophotometry and FTIR (Spoiler: It鈥檚 More Than You鈥檇 Eat in a Day!)

How many apples would it take to counteract the oxidative stress caused by PM2.5 air pollution? This project tackles that question by analyzing the oxidative potential of PM2.5 particles and comparing it to the antioxidant power of apples.

Project Title: From Adversity to Healthy Aging: Examining ACEs and Well-Being in Older Alaskans

Studying the beliefs and behaviors of older adults is critical to public health and well-being. The first step in designing health interventions is understanding the factors contributing to poor health. This project will examine the complex relationship between negative childhood events and healthy aging.

URSA鈥檚 Mentor Awards offer funding support for faculty, researcher staff, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students from all disciplines and all 51风流官网-affiliated campuses to engage undergraduate students on their current research and creative projects.

The Summer 2025 Mentor Awards will accept proposals up to $6,000 between Jan. 20 - March 2, 2025. Visit the Mentor Award webpage for additional award information and submit your proposal for review.
