CARE for students: Connect, advocate, refer, educate
Sept. 21, 2021
What is CARE?
Through early intervention, CARE case managers help students who may be experiencing social, emotional or behavioral health problems.
CARE’s goals include:
- CONNECT — We strive to connect to students, connect students with each other, and connect students with the campus community to build stronger support networks.
- ADVOCATE — We strive to advocate on behalf of students, upholding their rights while empowering them to make healthy decisions for a successful future.
- REFER — We strive to effectively refer students to campus and community resources as collaborative partnerships make us stronger as a community.
- EDUCATE — We strive to educate the population, to raise awareness, and to foster safety and inclusivity built by understanding and compassion.
What is the Student CARE Team?
The Student CARE Team is a diverse team of professionals that advise CARE case managers
on best practices and appropriate student intervernations while upholding student
wellbeing and campus safety. Team members include, though is not limited to, representatives
from the:
- Center for Student Rights and Responsibilities;
- Department of Residence Life;
- Office of the Provost;
- 51·çÁ÷¹ÙÍø Police Department;
- Student Health and Counseling;
- Rural Student Services;
- Disability Services; and
- Faculty
How do I make a referral?
If you have concerns for a student’s well-being or are aware of an ongoing issue, please contact the Center for Student Rights and Responsibilities to provide any relevant information you have. Please do not investigate the concern yourself.
If you would like to remain anonymous, please let the CSRR staff know. They will make every effort to honor this request.
Once you have made a referral, a CARE case manager will reach out to the student to
offer support and resources. Case managers will make every effort to respect the student’s
privacy and autonomy while balancing the safety of the greater campus community.
You can reach the Center for Student Rights and Responsibilities at 907-474-7317 or uaf-studentrights@alaska.edu.
