Misarti

Dr. Nicole Misarti is currently the director of the Water and Environmental Research Center at University of Alaska Fairbanks and an associate professor of research. Misarti is also associated with The University of Alaska Museum and the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences. She has served on the Board of the National Institutes of Water Research for several years, the last three on the Executive Committee (President Elect, President, and Past President). Her background is diverse with degrees in environmental science, archaeology, and marine science. She specializes in the historic-, paleo-, and neo-ecology of nearshore marine ecosystems, including salmon streams and lakes, using isogeochemical methods. Her research interests are as diverse as her background. Misarti’s main focus over the past decade has been on long-term climate and marine ecosystem changes, coastal resilience in Alaska, and how to apply this knowledge to help navigate the future in a rapidly changing sub-Arctic and Arctic. For the last few years Misarti has also participated in research on Alaskan water resource issues including contaminants and access.

Misarti enjoys the outdoors; spending free time camping, skiing, and adventuring with her partner and dogs. She also enjoys spending time in front of the woodstove with her cat and friends in the winter. Sometimes she stress bakes.
