CBSM Costa Rica Excursion May 2024
Have you ever had the desire to study abroad? If so, adventure is calling with the 51·çÁ÷¹ÙÍø College of Business and Security Management in Spring 2024. Earn three credits in Costa Rica towards either BA 151: Introduction to Business or SPAN 303: Intensive Conversation and Comprehension Abroad.
CBSM has taken students around the world to dream destinations including Italy, France, China, Walt Disney World and more. This trip is coordinated by Assistant Professor, Ruth Prato and by EF College Tours. Airfare from Fairbanks, accommodations, select meals and excursions are included.
The itinerary for this trip is as follows:
11 nights in San Jose
- Program orientation and neighborhood walking tour
- San Jose introduction tour
- Folklore Evening – traditional Costa Rican dinner followed by marimba music a local dance troupe performance
- Day trip to local turtle hatchery (pending)
- Business visit to Café Britt or Coffee Plantation
- Additional business visit to be confirmed
One night in Monteverde
- Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve and Canopy Park with lunch
- Plant a tree in the EF Reserve, with a canopy adventure tour and lunch
Two nights in Guanacaste
- Boat tour at Palo Verde National Park with lunch
Optional excursions include:
Isle Tortuga with lunch ($105): take a catamaran boat tour to the island, seeing native wildlife like dolphins and
crocodiles along the way. Once there, you can observe spider monkeys and views of
the ocean or take a short walk to the spectacular stone arch while enjoying a group
lunch.
Whitewater Rafting ($50): Use teamwork to navigate a path through the free-flowing waters of the SarapiquÃ
River (rapids level 2-3). Admire the lush Costa Rican scenery as you pass by stretches
of tropical forest.
Snorkeling ($50): Enjoy snorkeling off the coast of Guanacaste in clear Pacific waters, home to interesting
and unusual marine life, making this a favorite snorkeling destination!
Poás Volcano and La Paz Waterfall Gardens with lunch ($160): Experience two of Costa Rica’s impressive, natural wonders in one day. Enjoy a scenic
hike through the Poas Volcano National Park, admire magnificent views of the crater
and look out for hummingbirds and quetzals in the cloud forest. After lunch, explore
the La Paz Waterfall Gardens, where you can spot wildlife such as white face and spider
monkeys, wildcats, snakes and butterflies.
