ACEP Marine Energy Team Visits OSU Partners
May 12, 2023
The ACEP Marine Energy team working on the Department of Energy project Modeling the Integration of Marine Energy into Microgrids visited their Oregon State University project partners April 26-28.
The team, consisting of Phylicia Cicilio, Emily Browning, Nathan Green, and Baxter Bond, is working to develop marine energy power system models appropriate for grid integration studies. The goal is to help bridge the gap between the current state of models for marine energy devices and what is needed for large-scale deployment of these devices.
The OSU team focuses on wave energy devices. The ACEP team learned about the wave testing facilities in Oregon and the wave modeling efforts ongoing at OSU.
The team toured the PacWave South grid-connected wave test facility under development in Newport, Ore. Once completed, this facility will be the first grid-connected, utility-scale (up to 20 MW) wave device testing site in the United States. The team also visited the Newport OSU campus and Ocean Sentinel wave instrumentation buoy in Toledo. The team paid a visit to the main OSU campus in Corvallis and toured the Hinsdale Wave Research Laboratory where prototype wave devices (<kW) are tested.
This work is supported by the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science, Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, Water Power Technology Office under grant number #DE-EE0009445.
